Still looking for a job

I’m still looking for a job. I do clerical/office work and can use a variety of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Quicken and different document management software programs. I have been doing this type of work for the past 22 years and consider myself quite experienced. I am self-taught on the computer and I am a quick learner. I can use a lot of different types of office machines such as faxes, copiers and scanners.

The reason I haven’t found a job yet is that the job market for my type of work is not very good. There aren’t a lot of jobs out there for general office workers and secretaries. I was working at a temp job in 2008 and was laid off at the end of the season. The company decided, because of the economy, not to bring in temp workers in 2009. Because I was a temp worker I didn’t pay in enough to unemployment that the unemployment I did get only lasted a couple months. I have been without any income, except for a little here and there since April of 2009.

I haven’t given up. I’m still looking. I send out resumes and have even tried to make my resume better but either I don’t hear anything or I go to an interview and don’t get the job.

Happy New Year

2010 is fast approaching and I just hope it’s a better year than 2009 has been. I’ve been unemployed for a year now and hopefully I’ll find a job in 2010.

Our family has had a very bad 2009 and I hope, for everyone, that their luck changes beginning tomorrow. The bad luck needs to go away and the good luck needs to return.

A list of some of the not so good things that happened during 2009. We had a couple deaths in the family due to cancer, I was unable to find a job and didn’t get called back to the temp job that I loved, my unemployment and worker’s comp ran out within a month of each other and I’ve had no income since May 2009. We had to sell some things in order to survive. My elliptical was one of the things we had to sell.

The Economy diet

I am on a diet imposed by the economy. We can’t afford to buy much in the way of food so I’ve cut myself down to 2 meals a day with no in between snacking. I don’t need, nor can I afford, any appetite suppressants.

I was laid off in December 2008 and haven’t been able to find a job. Just recently I was informed by unemployment that I’m not eligible for the extended payments so I don’t have much in the way of money coming in. Unemployment said that I didn’t have 20 base weeks of employment in the base year of my original claim so I’m not getting the extended payments. I guess that’s because I was a temporary employee. I worked at the same place for 3 years but only worked from June or July to December. It was a seasonal place. I did work at least 20 weeks each year.

Hubby works but we have bills to pay.. such as rent, car payment, utility bills, etc and his paycheck just isn’t enough.
