Maybe…

Maybe I should start going to storage unit auctions. I watch those shows on TV where people buy storage units for cheap and up making a lot of money sometimes and other times the units are filled with worthless junk. There have been some units filled with boats, rifle scopes, rare coins, old baseball cards and other rare and expensive items. The people on that show sometimes make more than 3 times what they spent on the unit.

I saw one show where the unit was filled with nothing but trash and I think one guy bid on it and got it for something like $5.

Now that I think about it… I don’t think I’d make much money. I’d see people’s personal items, like pictures and papers, and try to return the stuff to them.

Hoarders

My aunt and uncle were hoarders. I never used to think of them that way but now that I think back on it they were. I used to think they just had a very messy house.

They had a path from the front door through to the back door and every surface (including the floor) was stacked with stuff. They must have kept stuff from the 1st day they moved in. I wonder if there were old bottles of prenatal vitamins in that stuff too. There were stacks of papers, newspapers, etc.

They had a decent sized house but all the clutter made it feel tiny. Their living room was basically cut in half by all the clutter. I remember seeing a piano and there was room behind it but that space was filled with stuff. There was stuff in front of the piano too so you couldn’t even get to it to play it. Their dining room table was piled with stuff except for spaces for them to sit and eat dinner.

They are both long gone now and I would have hated to see just how long it took to clean that house out to sell it. They must have had to use several large dumpsters to put all the clutter in. I think seeing that house that way made me hate having stuff piled up around my house. When we pack to move all the boxes sitting around waiting to be moved drive me crazy.

Buried in paper

I was sort of buried in papers this weekend. I went through some boxes that I had papers stored in. I figured I should get them organized. I have old bills, old term life insurance quotes, old receipts, etc that needed to be shredded. I organized the medical receipts, prescription receipts and things that needed to be kept. I filed them into other boxes and put labels on them.

Then I arranged the boxes on my closet shelves so they were in date and content order. My closets shelves have never been so nice and organized before.

Now I just have to shred all of those sensitive papers and I’ll be done. It’s so nice to have a very organized closet.

Weekend cleaning

I posted on my main blog that I did a lot of cleaning this past weekend. Some of the things I did was to go through some boxes and clean out some drawers. While doing that I came across some promotional products from another company I used to work for. I promptly threw them in the trash. There was a sticker, a can cozy and a few other things.

My place looks so nice and clean now. I scrubbed floors, counters and removed spots from my carpet. I did laundry, filed a bunch of papers and cleaned bathrooms. It always feels so good to get things accomplished!
