Still on a laptop

I’m still using Andi’s spare laptop after I tried cleaning my desktop and removed the heatsink then bent some pins on it when I tried to put it back together. I should have left well enough alone and just used the canned air to get what I could instead of trying to make it spic and span.

The tower turns on and the fan runs like a champ but nothing loads. The USB ports and other plugs in the back don’t work at all and anything plugged into them don’t work.. like the monitor and keyboard.

A new heatsink will cost only about $20 but it’s just a matter of being able to spare that $20 right now. I’m also spending my time looking at netbook reviews, laptops on different websites or even a whole new desktop.

I’m just thankful, right now, that Andi had this spare laptop. It’s been a real lifesaver.

Many ways

There are many ways to access the internet these days. I remember when there was only 1 way. That was by a big, clunky desktop computer. Now you can access it by your cell phone, PDAs and laptops.

I guess you could call me an old fashioned girl. I only get online by my desktop but it’s not old and clunky. I have a nice flat screen monitor (my old one took up half my desk!). The tower is still big but usually that hides in a door in my desk. I do use a wireless mouse though and wireless internet. When I 1st started online there was only dial-up and I was on AOL. That was the biggest pick-up place ever. Someone would always look for people online and try to pick them up. It was a bad scene.

I don’t use my cell for internet access because the data portion that’s necessary for that costs extra. I don’t need that anyway. But I do send status messages to Facebook by text once in awhile.

Do you use a PDA or cell phone for internet purposes?

Can’t think of a title

We just got home from a trip to Texas to take our grandsons down to their mom. This trip I didn’t have a notebook computer to take with me. I really missed it and I missed my home computer. Hubby asked me how much laptops cost and I told him that I could get one for well under $1000. He told me that if I’m a good little girl that santa might bring me one this Christmas.

When we got home I looked on the Dell website and can get one for just under $800. If I check out other places I could probably get one even cheaper.

It will be nice to have a laptop for traveling or even for at home when I just don’t feel like sitting at my desk.

Worth a thousand words

They say a picture is worth a thousand words… that is if you have your camera with you.. and your batteries are charged or fresh… and your compact flash card is empty. If your batteries are dead then that picture is worth nothing.

I always download photos from my camera as soon as possible after taking pictures. When we went to Texas I downloaded every night when we stopped for the night. After we got home I transferred the pictures from the laptop to my desktop and then saved them to disk so I’ll always have them. It’s about time to do a photo backup again as I’ve added a lot more pictures to my desktop. It would be so sad if something happened to the desktop and those memories were lost.
