Paint on Vinyl Flooring

Clean floorWhen I moved into my condo there were paint drips all over the vinyl floors. I tried all kinds of things to get the paint off from using a dull blade from a utility knife to one of those scrubbing sponges. Nothing was working. I finally wet the spots and used a metal spatula to remove the paint. It worked really well.

The floor has grooves in it so I had to use a small screwdriver to get the paint out of the grooves. My floor looks so much better now. Now I don’t cringe when I walk into my kitchen.

I tried to do the same thing in the bathroom but I need to find a plan B for that room because the flooring has a different makeup than the kitchen floor and the paint just won’t come off. I even tried nail polish remover (in a hidden area) but that just started removing the finish of the floor… (oops!!!).

I’ll get it all cleaned up eventually. It will just be a case of trial and error in the bathroom.

Carpet spots

I live in a rented one bedroom condo. My daughter and grandson were living here until today. They moved to Pennsylvania with her fiancée. Having a baby living here resulted in a lot of spots on a light colored carpet. The carpet is fairly new and was just put in a few months before we moved in.

Last night Andi was changing Benton’s diaper and, for the heck of it, she took a clean baby wipe and rubbed at one of the spots on the carpet. We were all surprised when the spot came out. Who would have thought that baby wipes would remove spots from carpeting.

I went to the dollar store today and bought soft cloth baby wipes and got down on the floor and proceeded to clean up other spots on the carpeting. I just can’t believe how well it worked in removing those spots.

I’m definitely going to keep some baby wipes on hand to remove any other spots I see on this carpet.

No car this weekend

Andi and Drew took my car yesterday. It’s not because I’m old and shouldn’t be on the road anymore and should be using Medicare supplement insurance.. it’s because they went up to Pennsylvania for the weekend to visit Drew’s family.

I feel lost without my car. They’ll be back sometime on Sunday and I can’t wait! I’m already going stir crazy with cabin (camper) fever. Hubby and I took down the blinds in the camper today and he took them outside and cleaned them. While he was doing that I cleaned the windows and stuff. That took all of about a half hour then I was bored again.

Saving Recipes

How do you keep your recipes? Do you see one online you like and save it to your hard drive? Do you print it out and put it in a book? Or do you save it to a flash drive? Right now I just have mine bookmarked and I’ll probably print them out and put them in a binder in a plastic sleeve for each one. That will keep them clean and neat and they won’t rip or tear. They certainly won’t get lost.

Why don’t you leave a comment letting me know your recipe saving ideas? I’d love to hear them!

Staying the night

What kind of accommodations do you look for when traveling? Do you go the camping route? The motel route? Or do you look for the best hotels anaheim has to offer when you are in California?

Personally hotels are a bit pricey for our budget and we usually go the motel route. There are good ones out there and the ones we’ve liked best are Super 8 motels. At least the ones between here and Texas were good. They had free wireless internet and the beds were really comfy and clean. The rooms were spotless. In fact hubby liked them so much that any time we go anywhere he wants to stay in a Super 8.

Weekend cleaning

I posted on my main blog that I did a lot of cleaning this past weekend. Some of the things I did was to go through some boxes and clean out some drawers. While doing that I came across some promotional products from another company I used to work for. I promptly threw them in the trash. There was a sticker, a can cozy and a few other things.

My place looks so nice and clean now. I scrubbed floors, counters and removed spots from my carpet. I did laundry, filed a bunch of papers and cleaned bathrooms. It always feels so good to get things accomplished!

Musical cleaning

How to clean wind chimes.

To clean the metal, use WD-40 and a soft rag. Spray the WD-40 on, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and then wipe with a soft rag. It will clean off pollution, salt sea air and spray, sap from trees, bird droppings and acid rain chemicals and make the metal shine.

To care for the wooden parts, moisturize the wood with a periodic coating of exterior wood oil.

To clean glass wind chimes, clean with your normal glass cleaner. I usually spray on the glass cleaner then rinse it off with hot, hot water and let the chimes air dry.

I need to organize

The closet in my spare bedroom is quickly becoming a disaster area. In fact the entire bedroom is on it’s way in that direction. I have boxes in the closet that have been there since I moved in and haven’t been unpacked.

I couldn’t begin to tell you what’s there. There could be any number of things in those boxes… such as old weight loss pills, pencils, papers, cards and maybe even some trash and who knows what else.

See the picture up there? Those boxes on the right are the ones I’m talking about. The picture is only the right half of the closet. There is more junk on the left and on the shelf above. This closet runs almost the entire length of one wall.

I have got to get my rear in gear and clean out this dumping ground of a spare bedroom!
