Stinky

I don’t know why but all of a sudden it smells like someone has been smoking cigars in here. Both Andi and I smoke but not cigars. We have been burning candles and using Febreeze but it doesn’t help.

I bought some Lysol today and hope that helps. I don’t know if there is some sort of gap in the walls that is allowing the smell to come in from another condo or if we have a cigar smoking ghost in here. I sort of hope it’s just a gap in the walls and not a ghost.

Shopping

I got paid last night and today the money is all gone! No.. I didn’t buy any expensive jewelry… I went grocery shopping. But at least I now have enough food for at least the next 2 weeks. I got a 2 lb package of hamburger and split it up so I have 1 package to make spaghetti and another to make a meat loaf. I got all kinds of stuff.

dsc01674I also found Pepperidge Farm cookie scented candles there. I picked up a Milano Double Chocolate candle and it smells so yummy! They had all kinds of cookie scents but I just had to have the chocolate one!

They had sugar cookie, vanilla cookie, orange, mint and raspberry scented ones.. just to name a few. Actually I don’t remember all the ones they had because my eyes went right to the chocolate one!

I can’t wait to light this one up and see how it smells when the candle is burning.

Candles

Candles are pretty and can make your home smell good but sometimes cleaning out the Votive candle holders can be a real pain in the neck. There are a couple different ways to clean the wax residue of them.

One way is to put the holder in the freezer for a little bit then you should be able to pop that bit of candle right out of the holder. Some say to put about an eighth inch of water into the holder before inserting the candle and that will make removal easier. (I haven’t tried this one, so I don’t know if it really works or not). Another way is to put the holder into a pan of very hot water, if it’s a washable holder, and wait a little bit and you should be able to scrape the wax out with a spoon or butter knife.

My preferred method is the freezer method. It takes about an hour and the leftover wax pops right out with a spoon or butter knife.

Cleaning

I had a fire outside my front door the other day. I’ve been spending the last couple of days cleaning up because of the smoke and soot that got inside through cracks in the door. I vacuumed everyday since Thursday and there are still soot tracks from the firemen. My daughter is coming up from Texas this week and should be here on Thursday and I have to de-soot this place by then. I’ve been burning candles and spraying Febreez to get rid of the lingering odors.

It was a teenager that started the fire. As far as I know they haven’t caught him yet. I wish someone would put a Garmin GPS device on him and track him down and throw is butt in jail!

Romantic dinner for 2

It’s always nice to have a romantic dinner for 2. Pack up the kids and ship them to a relative or babysitter for an overnight stay. Prepare hubby’s favorite meal, turn the lights down low, light candles, pretty yourself up, put on your hot lingerie, pour some wine and watch the excitement happen. Hubby’s eyes will light up and it will give him something to remember for a long time.

Put some spark in your marriage. Every relationship needs something like this once in awhile.

Candles

Did you know that candles have been around for more than 5,000 years? I didn’t know that until I came across an article at candles.org. The article gives you a history of candles.

I love candles and I have quite a few. My favorite scent is French Vanilla. I have a 2 wick one in a jar but I have less than an inch left in it and I need to get another one. I started with my candle “fetish” when we used to lose our electric quite often (that doesn’t happen all that much anymore) and I would buy candles “just in case”. I hate sitting around in the dark. I used to get candles from one company at candle parties but I don’t know anyone who does those parties anymore. I loved those candles. They would burn all the way down and the wax residue was easy to remove.

Hopefully our electric will stay on tonight and I won’t have to use my candles.
