Paint on Vinyl Flooring

Clean floorWhen I moved into my condo there were paint drips all over the vinyl floors. I tried all kinds of things to get the paint off from using a dull blade from a utility knife to one of those scrubbing sponges. Nothing was working. I finally wet the spots and used a metal spatula to remove the paint. It worked really well.

The floor has grooves in it so I had to use a small screwdriver to get the paint out of the grooves. My floor looks so much better now. Now I don’t cringe when I walk into my kitchen.

I tried to do the same thing in the bathroom but I need to find a plan B for that room because the flooring has a different makeup than the kitchen floor and the paint just won’t come off. I even tried nail polish remover (in a hidden area) but that just started removing the finish of the floor… (oops!!!).

I’ll get it all cleaned up eventually. It will just be a case of trial and error in the bathroom.

Painting

We’ve been working on this house trying to get it into shape to be sold. It’s not our house. It belongs to my sister-in-law and she just put it on the market. If I were to walk into it in the condition it was in I would have turned around and walked out again. The walls looked horrible and were in bad need of a paint job.

That’s what Andi and I have been doing lately. The living room, kitchen, family room, bathrooms, upstairs hallway and 1 bedroom have been painted mostly by Andi. This week I’ve been working on my bedroom. I got 3 walls painted before I ran out of paint and most of the trim done. We still have to get more paint to finish my room and the last bedroom, which is a bright pepto bismol pink! We need to get more ceiling paint too to finish the upstairs hallway, my bedroom and the pink room. Then we should be finished with the painting.

Andi also painted the kitchen cabinets and Drew painted the hardware for the cabinets and the exhaust hood for the range. Everything is starting to looks so much better.

Now to get sis-in-law here to go through all of the stuff she left here when she moved. There are boxes and boxes of stuff all over the place.

Fixing up

I have the bathroom all fixed up here. It just needs a nice paint job. I don’t really care for the color…. it’s too dark. I found a basket that I had with me that I put on the back of toilet tank that I have my deodorant, toothpaste, hair brush, combs, and makeup in (no testosterone cream though).

It’s so nice to have a full sized tub/shower, a real toilet and normal sized sink again. After living in a camper and using a tiny shower, a camper toilet and small sink I feel like I’m living in a castle!

Being sick sucks

I got sick on Thursday and thought I need to find some quick life insurance quotes because I thought I was about to die. I haven’t been sick in years and it was horrible. It’s Monday and I’m still not quite 100% and I wish this thing would just disappear and never, ever return again.

I never want to see the bathroom as much as I have in the past few days.

I’m finally able to eat food again, but I can’t eat much at a time now. It seems like my stomach shrunk but I’ve been eating soup, at least. Sunday I was hungry and ate only a couple bites of my breakfast and had to throw away the rest. I just couldn’t eat it.. I felt full. I don’t have a scale here and hope that maybe I even lost a couple pounds.

Got locked in the bathroom

Last night I went into our bathroom before bed and closed the door. When I went to go out the knob would not turn. I tried turning it both ways many times and nothing.. it wouldn’t budge. I was in there for 10 minutes trying to get out and wishing the door had one of those push bars like some commercial doors do.

It was late, after 11:30 pm, and hubby had fallen asleep on the couch in the living room and I didn’t want to go pounding on the door and yelling. That would have bothered the neighbors and there was nothing they would be able to do except knock on the front door and maybe wake hubby up.

I kept trying to open the door and it finally opened. By that time I was wide awake again so I got on the computer for a bit. I finally got sleepy and went to bed when a bad thunderstorm hit. There was constant thunder and lightning. It poured and poured and the wind was blowing like crazy. This went on for a good 45 minutes. During this time the upstairs neighbors got a bit loud while “enjoying each other”.

I finally fell asleep sometime after 3 am. I don’t know for sure because during the storm the electric went out for a few minutes and my clock was flashing.

So that was my night/morning. How was yours?

Oh.. I just realized I posted this on the wrong blog. Oh well. I’m not going to move it now.

Used dryer sheets

I take my used dryer sheets and use them to clean the lint filter before I use the dryer. The dryer sheets hold the lint and you can throw away the lint and dryer sheet in one shot. I also use them to clean off the dust/lint from the top of the washer and dryer. It works nicely.

Here are some other things you can use used dryer sheets for:

1. Use it to dust your television screen. They are anti-static and will help to repel dust and lint.

2. Use old dryer sheets to easily wipe up powder, flour, and other powdery type messes.

3. Used sheets usually have enough smell left in them so you can put them in tennis shoes, closets, laundry hampers and in your luggage or any place in your house.

4. Run a sheet over a piece of thread when you’re sewing. The thread won’t tangle up as easy.

5. Wipe pet hair off of your clothes with a used dryer sheet! It works on cloth furniture too!

6. Clean the dust off your computer screen by carefully wiping it with an old dryer sheet.

7. Do you have old, musty books? You can make them smell good again by placing the books in a sealed plastic bag with a used dryer sheet. Let the bag to sit undisturbed for a day or two, then remove the contents. The musty smell will be gone!

8. If you have mice… find where they are entering your house and stuff the hole shut with a used sheet. Mice won’t chew through the smelly material.

9. Put a used dryer sheet in the bag of your vacuum. Sweep your house, and, once you’re done, the air will smell as fresh as your
clothes do.

10. Dryer sheets are also supposed to be able to repel mosquitoes as well as other annoying, flying insects. Don’t rub it on you. Instead, stick a used sheet in your belt loop.

11. You can use dryer sheets to clean and polish the chrome on your vehicles.

12. Use an old dryer sheet to clean soap scum off of your glass shower door.

13. Place a few used dryer sheets under the seats of your vehicle to help deodorize your vehicles interior! No need to find someone with sales training to sell your stinky vehicle.

14. Use sheets to clean and polish the glass lens of your eye glasses. They’re not recommended for plastic lens!

15. Is your hair dry and full of static electricity? Gently wipe a used dryer sheet over your head to get rid of it. (I’ve done this.. it works)

16. Dryer sheets make great dusting cloths for your wooden furniture.

17. Put a used sheet inside every furnace/AC register in your house to keep dust and other contaminants out of your house. Make sure it covers the openings and replace once they are dirty.

18. Clean your window blinds by wiping them with used dryer sheets. This will help to repel dust and dirt.

19. Are your scissors not cutting as smooth as they should? Wipe the blades clean with a used dryer sheet to remedy this problem.

20. Use dryer sheets to clean and shine your chrome faucets.

From Kat:

You can also use a used dryer sheet to get off stuck on or burnt messes in a pot or pan. Put some hot water in the pan and 1 used dryer sheet. Let the pan sit for a minimum of 2 hours, and then wash as normal with dish detergent. The stuck and burnt on messes come right off and washing it cleans off any fabric softener residue so no worries about ingesting any chemicals.

I do this all of the time when I make bbq chicken legs because the sauce always burns and sticks to the pan. They come perfectly clean every single time.

House help

I miss the house we used to have. It had 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a great kitchen, living room and dining room. We added on a 2 car garage and later added a 1 bedroom, 1 bath in law apartment on the back. The livingroom/great room area and master bedroom and bath had cathedral ceilings with skylights in the living room and kitchen.

We ran into financial problems and lost the house. I really wish we had looked into getting some foreclosure help before that happened. We didn’t do that and just let them take it. That began the condo renting cycle. We really want to try to get another house. Hubby really misses having a garage to tinker around in and I really miss having my own home. I miss being able to paint and do what I want with my home. I miss the peace and quiet we had at our old home. Some day… some day….
