Benton

Benton is almost 17 months old and he doesn’t do a lot of things that babies his age do. He doesn’t wave, unless he feels like it. He doesn’t really say any words yet except for DaDa. But he does do a lot of things that older babies do and he shouldn’t be doing at his age.

For example he’s been climbing stairs long before he could walk.. since he was about 4 or 5 months old. He seems to have his own language but has started pointing to things he wants. Some of his “words” sort of resemble real words.

Andi is trying to figure out if he’s slow or really advanced for his age. He’s been walking since he was a year old and was walking with help since he was just a few months old. He has no problem putting one of his pegs for a toy into one of his shapes from his shape toy and other things like that.

Rehab

Andi, Drew and I have been rehabbing my sister-in-law’s house that we have been living in. Some bedrooms have been painted. The living room has been painted and so has the kitchen. The kitchen could use new counter tops, sink and new Moen kitchen faucets. It’s surprising what a coat or two of paint can do. The kitchen cabinets have been painted white and the old hardware was taken off and painted what now looks like a brushed chrome. It looks really pretty.

Drew took down the range hood and gave it the same brushed chrome look too. The walls had an apple wallpaper border along the backsplash and we took that down. It was very easy to do with a spray bottle filled with hot water and a scraper. Over the sink had apples painted across the wooden strip that joins the cabinets on either side. They are now gone too thanks to primer and paint.

I have to admit that I didn’t get to help out with the painting much. I mostly kept the baby occupied while Andi did most of the work. I did help with the trim while the baby was napping though.

The house looks almost 100% better now even though there are still more rooms that need repainting.

New grand daughter

I have a new grand daughter. This makes grandbaby #7. Sophia Josephine was born on July 20, 2010. She weighed 7 lbs 11 ounces and was 19 inches long. She has black hair and blue eyes.

Her parents are my oldest son and his wife who live in Texas. Sophia is their 2nd child. They have a 3 year old son named Trey.

Since I live in New Jersey and am unemployed I don’t know when I’ll get to meet Sophia. We can’t afford to travel right now. We just don’t have the money for that. I’ll just have to be content to watch her grow up in pictures for now.

Finding a baby doctor

Andi is still trying to find a doctor to take Benton to. The county sent her to one place that was the pits! It was filthy. There were blood drops on the floor that hadn’t been cleaned up and the floor was just plain dirty. Syringes were sticking out of the sharps container. A little one could have easily grabbed the syringes that were sticking out.

The only thing they had in the exam room to clean the exam tables was a spray can of Lysol. They didn’t have any sanitizer or wipes.

Andi walked out of that place without having Benton looked at so now she has to find a baby doctor that has a clean office.

Wow… I didn’t realize

I didn’t realize just how long it’s been since I posted here. A lot has been going on. About the end of August we got notice the landlord wasn’t going to renew our lease and wanted us out in 6 days. We got him to give us another month to find a place. We were unable to find something suitable and now we are living in our camper until we can find something.

There sure won’t be any orlando vacations… we need to find a place to live. It’s going to have to be at least 3 bedrooms .. preferably 4 because Andi, the baby and her boyfriend will be moving in with us to help with expenses.

I still haven’t found a job either. This economy is really bad.

Done

Andi is out of the Army and on July 30th one of those cross country moving companies came and packed up all of her stuff. It will be here soon and she has to get a storage unit to put it in. I’d have her put it here but I don’t really have all that much room now.

Right now she’s up in Pennsylvania with her boyfriend but she says that she’s miserable and wants to come home. I don’t know if it’s because it’s getting close to time for the baby to come and she wants to be with family or what. It sure wouldn’t hurt my feelings if she wanted to come stay with me. I miss her even though she’s only about 4 hours away.

Baby things

My daughter, Andi, is pregnant with her 4th child. She has absolutely nothing for the baby. Her youngest is 9 and she thought she was done having babies and got rid of all the baby stuff long ago. So now she’s been looking at prices of things and is getting discouraged. I found some places online and sent her links. She can also check out some online auctions to find a good deal.

I just wish we were rich or could win a lottery then I’d send her all the money she needs to get everything she needs for the new little guy. Yes.. it is a boy. The ultrasound she had last week said so.

Stains

It’s always tough to get stains out your little one’s clothes. You know, those stains from formula and whatnot that seem to always get trapped in your little one’s best baby clothes?

Here is one way, that I came across, to help remove those stains. Sprinkle a little baking soda on the stain and then pour on a little club soda. It will foam up and you have to let it sit and work for a little bit. Then take an old toothbrush and gently scrub the stain. The stain should loosen up and dissolve then all you have to do is wash it as usual.
