Andi, Drew and I have been rehabbing my sister-in-law’s house that we have been living in. Some bedrooms have been painted. The living room has been painted and so has the kitchen. The kitchen could use new counter tops, sink and new Moen kitchen faucets. It’s surprising what a coat or two of paint can do. The kitchen cabinets have been painted white and the old hardware was taken off and painted what now looks like a brushed chrome. It looks really pretty.
Drew took down the range hood and gave it the same brushed chrome look too. The walls had an apple wallpaper border along the backsplash and we took that down. It was very easy to do with a spray bottle filled with hot water and a scraper. Over the sink had apples painted across the wooden strip that joins the cabinets on either side. They are now gone too thanks to primer and paint.
I have to admit that I didn’t get to help out with the painting much. I mostly kept the baby occupied while Andi did most of the work. I did help with the trim while the baby was napping though.
The house looks almost 100% better now even though there are still more rooms that need repainting.
I don’t remember if I posted on this blog about taking a vacation or not but I found a few things on my cpanel that shows how people got to my blog. I found things like cruises Royal Caribbean, vacation, packing for a trip, etc. I didn’t find too many strange things… this time.
I mostly get searches for recipes, tips for making your own Febreze, baking soda, crochet, hair color and stuff like that. It’s all stuff I’ve posted about on this blog. I probably have posted tips on packing a suitcase, although I can’t find that post at the moment.
I think I’ll go and check out my stats some more and see what else I can find.
Benton is almost a year old and he’s into everything. We can’t afford to buy baby gates right now so we have to use chairs to keep him away from the stairs and the cabinet under the sink. This is not an easy task because he’s learned how to pull the chairs away from things.
He’s not walking yet but he stands by himself and has taken a step or two. I’m not looking forward to him walking.. well I am but I’m not. He’s also a climber and is constantly climbing on the couch. Andi says he’s going to give her a heart attack because he’s such a daredevil already.
He used to, as of just a few days ago, take 2 naps a day. The past few days he’s only taken 1 nap a day. That is making for such a long day chasing Benton and trying to keep him out of trouble. As Andi says… It’s a good thing he’s cute! lol
I’m still looking for a job. I do clerical/office work and can use a variety of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Quicken and different document management software programs. I have been doing this type of work for the past 22 years and consider myself quite experienced. I am self-taught on the computer and I am a quick learner. I can use a lot of different types of office machines such as faxes, copiers and scanners.
The reason I haven’t found a job yet is that the job market for my type of work is not very good. There aren’t a lot of jobs out there for general office workers and secretaries. I was working at a temp job in 2008 and was laid off at the end of the season. The company decided, because of the economy, not to bring in temp workers in 2009. Because I was a temp worker I didn’t pay in enough to unemployment that the unemployment I did get only lasted a couple months. I have been without any income, except for a little here and there since April of 2009.
I haven’t given up. I’m still looking. I send out resumes and have even tried to make my resume better but either I don’t hear anything or I go to an interview and don’t get the job.
I moved 2 weeks ago and it feels so good to finally be out of that camper we were in. I’m living at my sister-in-laws house with my daughter, her fiancĂ©e and son. I’m also living with a kitty and puppy too. They don’t get along too well yet but they are getting better being around each other.
My sister-in-law moved into a 1 bedroom condo and we are paying rent and also trying to fix the place up so she can sell it later on. The house needs lots of paint and care to get it ready for sale. There is a fireplace in the basement that is white painted brick. It would be nice to be able to get rid of the brick and replace that with one of the nice Amish fireplaces that I’ve seen. There is one that even has a entertainment center type surround for it.
This house is electric and having a fireplace in the winter helps to keep the heating bills down. It doesn’t have central air either, just window units. We only put the air on in the rooms we are in. At night we turn off the downstairs units and turn on the bedroom units.
I have the bathroom all fixed up here. It just needs a nice paint job. I don’t really care for the color…. it’s too dark. I found a basket that I had with me that I put on the back of toilet tank that I have my deodorant, toothpaste, hair brush, combs, and makeup in (no testosterone cream though).
It’s so nice to have a full sized tub/shower, a real toilet and normal sized sink again. After living in a camper and using a tiny shower, a camper toilet and small sink I feel like I’m living in a castle!
There are many ways to access the internet these days. I remember when there was only 1 way. That was by a big, clunky desktop computer. Now you can access it by your cell phone, PDAs and laptops.
I guess you could call me an old fashioned girl. I only get online by my desktop but it’s not old and clunky. I have a nice flat screen monitor (my old one took up half my desk!). The tower is still big but usually that hides in a door in my desk. I do use a wireless mouse though and wireless internet. When I 1st started online there was only dial-up and I was on AOL. That was the biggest pick-up place ever. Someone would always look for people online and try to pick them up. It was a bad scene.
I don’t use my cell for internet access because the data portion that’s necessary for that costs extra. I don’t need that anyway. But I do send status messages to Facebook by text once in awhile.
Do you use a PDA or cell phone for internet purposes?
I went over to my sister-in-law’s house today to go through some stuff in her garage that I had stored there. It turned out there were only a couple things that are mine. But my oldest son, on the other hand, has a ton of stuff stored there. He has stereo equipment, pull up bars, boxes of papers and all kinds of other assorted junk. He’ll be in from Texas the end of July to sort through it all.
Sis-in-law is having a yard sale this weekend and probably one more before she moves out. She went through her spare room, which was wall to wall boxes of stuff she never unpacked when she moved into that house. She did a lot of throwing out of stuff and has a ton to sell at the yard sale.
I’ll be going over tomorrow to help her get everything priced and ready for sale.
