How many?

I was just wondering how many cookbooks you own. I used to have about 10. Now I’m down to about 4 or 5. I have a Better Homes and Gardens cookbook that I’ve had for years. I also have one that was my Grandmoms that is really old.

I’ve posted some recipes here from Grandmom’s cookbook before and I’ll probably post some more of them soon. Recipes way back then are kind of different than recipes today. For example… instead of saying bake at 350 degrees it will say bake in a moderate oven. I also have a bunch of recipes that Grandmom cut out of magazines and newspapers. I’ve posted some of them too.

So tell me… are you a recipe/cookbook collector?

Wow does this hit home.

I have the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook that was my mom’s. A lot of the pages have yellowed, many have been torn and some are missing.

I think ( I didn’t count) I’ve got between 20-30 cookbooks. Funny thing is I’m one of those who feel the need to “tinker” with just about every recipe I find so I rarely follow them verbatim anyway.

My favorites however, aren’t books. They’re 2 small wooden recipe boxes stuffed full of index cards and scraps of folder paper with handwritten recipes from my grandmothers and their mothers before them.

I get a kick out of not only reading them but trying to translate some of them. If anyone knows exactly how much 2 cents of yeast is supposed to be, let me know.

I have five….3 from different churches, 1 Weight Watchers and 1 Betty Crocker. And I’m compiling one from recipes that I’m collecting from family, friends and online.
