Ultra Palmolive

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Ultra Palmolive Lavender and Ylang Ylang is made by Colgate-Palmolive Company. I love the smell of it. It claims to be tough on grease and soft on hands. Well, it’s partly right. It does great on getting the greasy residue left on pans and dishes from foods. The downside is after using it my hands feel tight and dry. I have to use lotion right away or my hands start cracking. The only way around that tight/dry feeling is to use gloves. I don’t really care for using gloves except when I use harsh chemicals like those that contain bleach.

The thing that keeps me using this product is definitely the scent. I love the lavender and ylang ylang. It’s a very calming scent.

If you don’t mind putting lotion on after every time you do dishes or pots and pans then Ultra Palmolive is a great product.

Rotisserie Chicken

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Rotisserie chicken is delicious and I never thought I’d be able to make it in my own home in my kitchen. I could use the rotisserie on the barbecue but that would mean cooking in 2 places at once, outside and in the kitchen. I wouldn’t want to do that in the winter. I’d rather rotisserie in the kitchen.

At Rotisol-France, Inc. you can get vertical rotisseries which are more for a commercial environment. They come in either electric or gas and are state of the art. I’d love to get a Roti Roaster. It’s still quite large and I’d have to get hubby to build something to put it on and run a 220 line to it. It would be good for a small restaurant. Now if only they could make a smaller one that would be good for the home. I’d be happy!

Cherry Batter Pudding

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

Another recipe from my grandmom’s collection:

1 1/2 cups cake flour
2 tsps. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups red sour cherries - fresh or canned, pitted

Sift the flour, measure then add baking powder and salt and sift again. Cream shortening then add the sugar gradually and continue creaming until light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat in thoroughly. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk, stirring just enough after each addition to blend. Fold in the cherries (if you are using the canned cherries make sure they are well drained). Pour into a greased square baking pan (8 x 8 x 2 inches). Bake in a moderate oven (375 degrees) until done… about 45 minutes. Serve upside down with nutmeg sauce *recipe below*.

Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Nutmeg sauce:

Mix 1/3 cup of sugar, 4 tsps. cornstarch and 1/8 tsp. of salt in a saucepan. Add 1 cup of boiling water and cook for 3 minutes until clear and thickened. Remove from heat and stir in 2 tbsps. of butter and 1/8 tsp. of nutmeg.

1/2 cup instant coffee powder
6 envelopes of instant cocoa mix
2 quarts hot water
2 cups of milk
cinnamon sticks and whipped cream

Put all ingredients except cinnamon sticks and whipped cream into the slow cooker and stir well. cover and cook on High for 3 hours.

Stir well after the 3 hours. Turn to Low. Serve immediately or keep warm as desired. Serve in mugs with cinnamon sticks and whipped cream.

Makes about 2 1/2 quarts.

Shower Curtains

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

dinosaur_shower_curtain My grandkids come over and stay with me every other weekend. I have 2 bathrooms and the main one is the one the kids use. I’m decorating it in a theme just for them. I found some unique shower curtains. This shower curtain has cute dinosaurs that the boys will love. They are dinosaur freaks!

Kids will love these shower curtains. They can learn while they are bathing. You’ll have clean, smart kids. You’ll probably never get them out of the bathroom!
