Uses for dryer sheets

How many of you use dryer sheets just for drying clothes? Did you know you could use them for a lot of other things?

Bounce dryer sheet uses (you can use other brands too):

  • Repels ants and mice.
  • Gets rid of the musty odor in books and photo albums.
  • Repels mosquitoes. Tie a dryer sheet through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.
  • Eliminates static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.
  • Wipe your television screen and blinds with a used dryer sheet to keep dust from resettling.
  • Freshen the air in your home. Use a Bounce sheet in a drawers or hang in the closet.
  • Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through dryer sheet before beginning to sew.
  • Put a dryer sheet inside empty luggage before storing to keep out the musty smell.
  • Freshen the air in your car. Put a dryer sheet under the front seat.
  • Eliminate odors in trash cans and laundry bags or hampers. Put a dryer sheet at the bottom of the trashcan.
  • Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a dryer sheet will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.
  • Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Put a dryer sheet in your shoes or sneakers overnight.
  • Golfers put a dryer sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.
  • Put a dryer sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. Keeps them smelling fresh.
  • Wrap around the toilet paper holder. Every time you take a sheet, it freshens the air for free
  • Rub on your hair to remove that flyaway static
  • Removing the lint from the dryer filter. Just one swipe with the used dryer sheet from that load of clothes and the lint is gone.
  • Put dry potpourri in the middle of a used sheet, bring up all four corners and fasten together with a rubber band, then a ribbon and maybe a plastic sprig of greenery or flower. Use it for a lingerie sachet, or in the car – or even give it as a gift.
  • Put one in the bottom of pots before adding dirt. It will keep the dirt from falling out the drain holes, and still allow excess water to drain out. (Don’t use this on plants you intend to eat. Chemicals from the sheets may be dangerous to ingest.)

    • What not to use dryer sheets for:

  • Don’t use them around food. Putting them in a pan with stuck on food to set overnight is pointless, as most foods, even burned on, will soak loose without the use of fabric softener. If you must use something, a drop of liquid dish detergent or ammonia will help.
  • Don’t use them on anything that’s treated to be flame resistant – they’ll ruin the treatment.
  • Don’t use them on towels, kitchen linens, or summer cottons, because they keep fabrics from being absorbent.
  • Never use them near any heat or flame, as they’re extremely flammable.
  • If you use them in the dryer, be sure to scrub the lint filter regularly with soap and hot water to avoid build up of the fabric softener. Whether it clogs the filter or not, its flammability, plus lint, plus heat from the dryer makes the perfect condition for fire.
  • At the least, dryer sheets can shorten the lifespan of your dryer if you don’t keep the filter clean: Washing Lint Filter Extends Clothes Dryer Lifespan
  • One more warning: Dryer sheets are impregnated with chemical perfumes the safety of which has been questioned. Please be careful and keep that danger in mind when you use them anywhere.
